The Institute of Mining Engineering was established in 2013 and hasthree functional departments: Office, Teaching and Research Section, Student Section (Youth League General Branch) and four professional teaching and research sections (laboratories), includingMining Engineering Teaching and Research Section, Safety Engineering Teaching and research Section, Surveying and Mapping Engineering Teaching and research Section, and Experimental Center of the Institute of Mining Engineering. It has two undergraduate programs, safety engineering and mining engineering, which were approved for enrollment in 2014 and 2016 respectively.
The Institute has 38 teachers, including 30 full-time teachers, 8 party affairs, counselors and full-time laboratory managers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 3 professors, 17 associate professors (associate professors, senior engineers, senior laboratory engineers), and 10 intermediate professors (lecturers, engineers). There are 16 teachers with doctor's degree, 14 teachers with master's degree, and 7 teachers with double-qualified teachers. 53.3% of teachers have doctor's degree, and 100% of teachers have master's degree or above. The age structure of teachers is reasonable, and the number of teachers meets the teaching needs of this major.
In 2015, the major of Safety Engineering was approved as the pilot major of Comprehensive professional reform in Guizhou Province. In 2017, it was approved as the first-class major of Guizhou Province. The “Mine Pressure and Rock Strata Control” was approved as the First-class course of Guizhou Province, and the mining engineering practice teaching platform was approved as the First-class teaching platform of Guizhou Province (cultivation). In 2019, mining engineering major and mining engineering teaching team were respectively approved as first-class major and first-class teaching team of the university. In 2018, the teaching achievement "Experimental Project-driven Mixed Teaching Mode and Innovative Talent Cultivation" won the second prize of the 9th Higher Education Teaching Achievement of Guizhou Province.
The institute attaches great importance to building a platform for teachers' academic development and practical ability improvement. In just a few years from 2014 to 2018, we set up academic level scientific research platform like "mine disaster prevention research institute", "shale gas, coal-bed methane mining technology and comprehensive utilization research institute", "3 d simulation remote monitoring service platform" and the "first-class provincial mining engineering practice teaching platform (foster)" teaching platform. It gradually formed a relatively perfect system of platform structure, which has laid a solid foundation for teacher training and the introduction of talents.
The institute always takes teaching research and improving teaching quality as the essential work. The "double-base" teaching work of strengthening basic theories are put into practice to ensure the improvement of students' quality and ability. From 2014 to 2018, we undertook 26 teaching projects, including 1 provincial comprehensive professional reform pilot construction project, 3 provincial double first-class undergraduate construction projects, 2 provincial education reform projects, 17 university-level education reform projects and 3 university-level double first-class projects. 21 papers on teaching reform have been published, and the number of published teaching research papers is increasing year by year.
While focusing on improving the teaching level of teachers, we strengthen the improvement of scientific research capabilities. Teachers of our institute currently preside over 5 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 19 provincial and ministerial-level projects, 9 department-level projects, with a total funding of 8.729 million yuan; published 100 scientific papers, 4 of which are included in SCI, EI Contains 9 articles, 54 Chinese core journals, 6 authorized invention patents, 89 utility model patents, and 26 software copyrights. Also, 7 monographs and 2 textbooks with outstanding professional characteristics are published.
At present, 13 professional laboratories have been built with a total area of 1524 square meters. The average use area of students in each professional laboratory is 1.75 square meters. There are 353 sets of instruments and average value of equipment is above 800 yuan. The total value of new instruments is more than 13.99 million yuan, which means the average value of experimental equipment is 18,000 yuan per student. The experiments were done at 100%.
In order to cultivate students' practical operation skills and facilitate students' internship and employment, a series of internship practice platforms have been established. At present, 13 off-campus internship bases have been established.
